Huawei P30 Lite Hands-on

P30 Lite is not a new device, as it has the same hardware as the Huawei Nova 4e that launched in China in March. In a way, we can say that the P30 Lite is the model for consumers outside the Chinese market.

Although it came from the Nova family, the P30 Lite it shares some similarities in design to the P30 like the small notch and rear camera placement. It has a slightly bigger screen than the P30 at 6.15-inches but with more noticeable bezels especially at the chin. The earpiece is found above it and hidden inside is the LED notifications.

It has the power/lock and volume keys on the right. They’re made of plastic, clicky yet quiet, and are easy to reach.

At the top are the microphone and the hybrid dual-SIM tray.

Down at the bottom are the 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, main microphone, and the loudspeaker.

At the back, we have the fingerprint scanner and the protruding triple camera module consisting of the 24MP main shooter, 8MP ultrawide, and 2MP depth camera. These allow the P30 Lite to adapt to a wide range of shooting scenarios like landscape and portrait. Also, it’s AI-assisted and comes with features like Portrait with beautify, Night mode, and AR Lens.

The P30 Lite feels premium thanks to the 3D curved glass at the back. It’s a smudge magnet, but we’re already used to it. Besides, it has a clear case included in the package. The frame is plastic, but it has a nice paint job that can pass off as metal. It’s nice to hold as well due to its narrow structure and light body.

Powering the Huawei P30 Lite is the Kirin 710 octa-core chip, with a Mali-G51 GPU, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, EMUI 9.0.1 based on Android 9 Pie with GPU Turbo, and a 3,340mAh battery. For a mid-range device, that’s some really nice specs. We ran some benchmark apps and here are the results:

• AnTuTu – 101,112
• Geekbench – 1,518 (Single-Core), 5,084 (Multi-Core), 2,611 (RenderScript)
• PC Mark – 5,433 (Work 2.0)
• AndroBench – 285.15 MB/s (Read), 154.03 MB/s (Write)
