iOS 15 Beta 6 is Out! – What’s New?

iOS 15 Beta 6 released for developers and iOS 15 Public Beta 6 will release soon. Also, iPadOS 15 Beta 6, tvOS 15 Beta 6 released, watchOS 8 Beta 6 and macOS Monterey Beta 6 released.

This update brings big changes to AirPods, The App Store, Background Sounds, Accessibility, Weather, Control Center and more.

In this video I go over all the features, updates and changes in iOS 15 using iPhone 6s Plus, iPad Pro 12.9, iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

apple released iOS 15 beta 6.
00:05
Now you can see on this screenshot, I took it. Didn’t show up at first,
00:09
I had to check again and then it finally showed up with the proper wording.
00:13
So it released to developers and hopefully very soon to public beta testers
00:17
lately. It’s been the following day.
00:19
So I would expect it tomorrow if you’re not seeing it today,
00:22
by the time of this video. Now, as you can see on my iPhone 11,
00:26
which this screenshot is from, it came in at 804.4 megabytes on my 12 pro max.
00:31
It was 860.5 megabytes.
00:34
So it was about the same on all the devices I have here such as the iPhone 11
00:38
and success. Plus apple also released iPadOS 15 beta 6,
00:43
which I have on my 12.9 inch iPad pro from 2021.
00:46
And they also released tvOS 15 beta 6.
00:50
They did not yet release an update for watchOS 8 or macOS
00:55
Monterey. Those are still both on beta five. Now, as far as the build number,
01:00
let’s go ahead and take a look at that and then talk about what’s new.
01:02
So we’ll go to settings, then we’ll go to general than about,
01:05
and you can see the build number is 19a5325f.
01:10
And so we’re getting closer to a final version,
01:12
and now we are on a weekly cycle of updates. Now,
01:15
the first thing they’ve updated is the modem. There’s a modem update.
01:18
If you’re coming from beta five, debate a six,
01:21
I was having all sorts of odd conductivity issues with 5g.
01:25
Oftentimes I’d have to turn on airplane mode, shut off the cellular antennas,
01:29
shut off wifi, and then I could get it to connect.
01:31
So hopefully this modem update resolves those issues. Now,
01:35
as far as the first thing with new changes and features,
01:38
there’s an additional feature in accessibility.
01:41
So if we go to our settings and then we go to accessibility,
01:44
and then we go down to touch under touch, we go to assistive touch,
01:49
scroll down a little bit further.
01:51
And there’s a new option to use a game controller. It says,
01:54
allow assistive touch to be controlled by game controllers.
01:57
You can turn this on. It’s added to iPad iOS as well.
02:01
And so this is a new option that was not there before.
02:03
So we could use game controllers for other things,
02:06
but now we can use it for assistive touch. As the option has been updated. Now,
02:10
something apple has removed in this update is SharePlay.
02:14
Apple has said on their developer new site, and this is available to the public.
02:18
This website.
02:19
I can link it below that share play has been disabled for use in the developer
02:22
beta six versions of iOS, 15,
02:25
iPadOS 15 and tvOS 15,
02:28
and will be disabled in the upcoming beta six release of macOS Monterrey.
02:32
It will be brought later on with updates later this fall,
02:37
as you can see here. So this is going to be removed entirely probably until iOS
02:42
15.1. Apple has done this in the past. Unfortunately,
02:45
this was one of the biggest updates that people were looking forward to and the
02:49
removing it in iOS 15 betas for now and it will come again later. However,
02:53
you can still install the development profile if you need to develop for it,
02:57
but it won’t be available until later on. Now,
03:00
the first thing you may have already noticed is if we go back here or we swipe
03:04
to the left, the bottom address bar has changed. Again.
03:08
Apple has completely updated this again with beta six in safari.
03:12
So if you’re in safari and we look at beta five,
03:15
I have on the left here with the iPhone 12 pro and on the right is beta six.
03:19
So you can see it looks completely different below it.
03:22
We now have options for tabs, bookmarks share, and then refresh.
03:26
And then our little text size button. If we hit the text button here,
03:30
we have the option to show top address bar, which I’ll show you in a moment.
03:34
Privacy report, website, settings request, desktop website,
03:39
hi toolbar. And if we tap on website settings,
03:43
you’ve got your normal settings here. If we 3d press the address bar,
03:47
we now have some new options as well. So 3d press or haptic press,
03:51
you’ll see it says,
03:52
copy paste and go voice search or move to tab group. Now,
03:57
I kind of liked the voice search button in the address bar,
04:00
but they’ve moved that as well. If we’d have on move to tab group,
04:03
it shows our tab groups.
04:04
So this is completely different than what we have with beta five.
04:08
And like I said, you can tap on this and then move the address bar to the top.
04:12
So if you want the old style back, you can now do that in beta six.
04:16
If you prefer the address bar at the top,
04:17
it looks just like we have with iOS 14. So if you prefer that, look,
04:21
you can do that. And of course you can change it back as well,
04:25
show it at the bottom. So that’s new in beta six. Also,
04:28
if we go to our settings, there’s some updates there as well for safari.
04:32
So under settings, go to safari under safari, scroll down in.
04:36
Now we have the option to switch between tab bar and single tab. So that’s new.
04:41
And also we have landscape tab bar.
04:44
I’ll show you that in a moment as well as allow website tinting open links in
04:49
new tab, close after one month.
04:51
So that’s things that are a little bit different.
04:53
And the landscape tab bar option is now that it’s turned on.
04:57
If we rotate to landscape, we have our tab bar at the top.
05:01
So we have our different tabs, just like we would on iPad or on a Mac.
05:06
So you can turn that off if you don’t want that at all,
05:08
but you have more options.
05:10
And I think this is a little bit different with apple giving us all of these
05:14
options to have the tab at the top or a single tab or a new tab bar and all of
05:19
these different options. We haven’t really seen before.
05:21
Generally apple doesn’t allow this amount of customization.
05:24
So that’s something that’s been updated. It’s not really a new feature,
05:27
but I think it’s sort of a feature in the sense that a lot of people will just
05:31
want to go back to the normal top address bar. Now,
05:34
another thing they’ve updated has to do with game center.
05:37
So if you’re using the game center widget,
05:39
you’ll see on the left with beta five,
05:41
we didn’t really have any graphics there on the right.
05:44
We have some new graphics with some new emoji or an emoji.
05:48
So it says launch a game center enabled game to use this widget.
05:51
So this just looks a little bit different if you select the largest size.
05:55
So that’s been updated as well. Now, one thing I noticed that’s different,
05:58
but not hugely different is if we go into the health app,
06:01
you’ll see that we have workout highlights.
06:03
This is a little bit different than what I could find on previous versions.
06:07
So it’s just in a different organized fashion and it talks about workouts
06:11
instead of exercise minutes, it’s just showing you different things. Instead,
06:15
you can arrange this how you’d like,
06:17
but you’ll see workouts steps and more so it’s a little bit different as far as
06:21
the overall arrangement, not a huge update,
06:23
but at least something they’ve changed. Now.
06:25
One other thing I wanted to share that was in beta five that I didn’t mention in
06:28
the previous video is if you go to your app library and maybe you want to move
06:33
an app from the app library to a home screen,
06:35
we’ll just grab the calendar here and you can see in the upper right at
06:40
the top corner of my finger, there’s a little plus button.
06:43
So this is something that’s a little bit different. Again,
06:45
if I grab another app here and you’ll see there’s a little plus button in the
06:49
upper, right? And so that’s something that’s a little bit new.
06:53
Now I did get one splash screen. I opened all of the apps that are apple apps.
06:57
And the one splash screen I got I thought was a little bit odd because if you go
07:01
into the apple TV app, the first time I opened it on all of the devices,
07:05
I got a new splash screen that talks about apple originals and share, play,
07:09
which they’ve removed and shared with you.
07:11
So they’ll need to update this as well,
07:13
but it did show up for me the first time I opened that app.
07:16
Now within beta five,
07:17
they removed the option to add a legacy contact so far that has not been added
07:21
back in some of the wording is there on the backend. And again,
07:24
thanks to my friend,
07:25
Steve Mosher and Matt for helping me out finding some of these changes,
07:29
but on the backend,
07:30
some of those things for legacy contact have been added back in,
07:33
but I have not been able to find that officially an apple is not.
07:36
So they’ve added it back just yet. So that should be coming in a future update.
07:40
As far as iPadOS 15 beta 6, there is no mention of universal control just yet,
07:45
and there’s no additional changes or fixes other than the accessibility option I
07:50
showed you before where you have assistive touch and you have the option to add
07:54
a game controller.
07:55
So all of the same things are here compared with the phone.
07:59
There’s not really any differences in safari or anything else they just match.
08:03
Now, basically now, as far as resolved issues and known issues,
08:07
there are three resolved issues in this update, mostly small bug fixes,
08:11
and there are 32 known issues that still remain.
08:14
So apple is still actively working on this quite a bit.
08:17
And of course we do expect more betas than this as well. Now, according to you,
08:21
many of the banking apps are still not working. Many of them are,
08:25
and those banking apps do need to be updated so far.
08:27
Twitter has not crashed on me yet. So that’s a good sign.
08:31
CarPlay does continue to have issues. And again,
08:33
some VPNs are still not working. So those are bugs that are still remaining.
08:38
However, I did ask about green tint.
08:40
Someone did say that they had raised blacks,
08:43
although that should have been fixed as far as watching HDR content.
08:47
And the other thing is green tint seems to be gone for most people that I asked.
08:51
I didn’t have a single person tell me that they have green tint if they
08:54
experienced that before.
08:55
So that’s definitely something that looks like it’s a little bit better this
08:58
time around now, as far as iOS 15 beta 7,
09:03
I would expect one every week now based on what we’ve been having with the
09:07
updates, generally in August,
09:09
like I talked about yesterday and the news update video,
09:12
apple will switch to a weekly release schedule.
09:14
So I would expect beta seven sometime around the 24th of next week with
09:19
maybe a release candidate or beta eight around the 31st and then a final
09:23
release sometime in mid to late September to the public.
09:27
Generally mid September, we’ll have the final release of iOS 15, of course,
09:30
without share, play this time around now, as far as,
09:34
should you install iOS 15 beta six?
09:37
I would say if you’re already testing the betas, then absolutely.
09:40
Even though you’ll lose, share play,
09:42
they’re going to disable that feature anyway. So it wouldn’t really matter.
09:45
You should be testing this and hopefully finding if there’s any bugs and then
09:49
reporting them in the feedback app, if you’re using the beta version.
09:53
So apple takes that, that feedback. And as you can see in this update,
09:57
they use the feedback to fix safari.
10:00
I think a lot of people complained about that and they finally resolved it.
10:03
So they are looking at that and then fixing issues on the backend as well.
10:07
So definitely I would recommend installing it if you want to try it out,
10:10
as long as you have a backup and you realized that you can’t go back to iOS 14
10:15
without using a computer, if you’re aware of that, then sure,
10:18
go ahead and give it a try. It seems to be stable enough now,
10:20
but there still are some bugs from time to time. Now,
10:23
as far as battery life and overall performance,
10:26
I’m going to talk about them a little bit.
10:28
I want to save most of that for the first all video,
10:30
but I wanted to share my battery life on beta five since I’ve been using it the
10:34
entire time full time.
10:35
My battery health is at 95% and it was at 95% before this update
10:41
updates do not cause the battery capacity to go down.
10:43
It’s just the physical battery degrading over time. Now,
10:47
if it’s using more battery,
10:48
you’ll charge it more often and that would cause it to go down.
10:50
But the actual update itself will not do that. Now yesterday, you’ll see.
10:55
It varies greatly depending day to day.
10:57
My better battery life was a couple of days ago on Sunday,
11:00
where I had one hour and 58 minutes of screen on time at two hours and 10
11:03
minutes of screen off time. And didn’t even use a quarter of the battery.
11:07
That means throughout the day I would get eight to 10 hours of screen on time.
11:11
Like you would expect battery life has been significantly better.
11:14
Most of the time with these updates, you’ll see today,
11:17
I had three hours and eight minutes of screen on time at two hours and six
11:20
minutes of screen off time. And we’re not even at 50% yet.
11:23
So battery is doing pretty well overall with beta five and hopefully even better
11:28
with beta six now, performance wise, it does feel a little bit smoother.
11:31
I did notice that as I was scrolling through things initially,
11:34
and the little time that I’ve been using it,
11:36
but it will take more time to know battery life and performance overall.
11:40
However, benchmark scores did seem to improve a little bit.
11:43
So if we take a look at the geek bench scores, let me find those here.
11:46
You’ll see, I scored 1,588 for single court,
11:49
4,197 for multi-core.
11:52
Multi-core was lower before and this was right after updating.
11:56
So this is quite good.
11:57
We’ll take a look at the current date versus the previous one.
12:01
So you can see here,
12:02
the multi-core score and single core score improved quite a bit.
12:06
So it does seem to be performing better, um, not only this device,
12:10
but the others as well.
12:12
And we can take a look at all of them so you can compare and from left to right.
12:15
I have the 12.9 inch iPad pro from 2021,
12:18
the M one iPad pro the iPhone six S plus the iPhone 11 and then the
12:23
iPhone 12 pro max. And like I said, it seems to be getting a little bit better,
12:26
but these are just general benchmarks to see how it’s performing right after I
12:30
updated. Now, as far as the overall heat of the phone,
12:33
I know a lot of people want to know, is it getting really hot?
12:35
And so far it’s been nice and cool while it is typical to get very warm when
12:39
charging, as it’s going to heat up the battery or very warm when doing intensive
12:43
processes, the seems to be doing okay so far,
12:46
it’s very cool to the touch when just doing normal tasks right now,
12:50
which seems to be an improvement from what we’ve had before,
12:52
especially with earlier betas. And so that’s everything with iOS 15 beta six.
12:57
Of course, if I find anything else new,
12:59
I’ll do a follow-up video with additional new features and more,
13:02
if you found anything more, I’d love to hear from you in the comments below.
