The plan for the 2023 General races will not be delivered until the Electoral Act change bill is endorsed into law, The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled.
This was unveiled by the commission’s executive, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at the main quarterly gathering with ideological groups for 2022.
Mahmood said they are anticipating a fast entry of the bill, which will decide its groundwork for the 2023 General Elections.
“On the Electoral Amendment Bill presently before the National Assembly, the commission is empowered by the Senate President’s affirmation to concentrate completely on the Bill when the National Assembly reconvenes from today break, and the responsibility by the President to consent to the Bill when the issue of method of primaries by ideological groups is settled.
“We anticipate a fast entry of the Bill, which is critical to our arrangements for future races. When it is endorsed into law, the commission will rapidly deliver the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election in view of the new law.”
