The RED Hydrogen smartphone development project is halting development. This was told by the founder of RED Jim Jannard. In a statement, he said that he was resigning due to “some health problems.”

RED Hydrogen One is the first smartphone company that specializes in professional cameras. During the announcement in 2017, the manufacturer promised a “holographic display”, a flagship camera and a plug-in system.

As a result, the modules were never presented, and all their references were removed from the RED website. The holographic display did not impress the reviewers. In July 2019, Jannard said that Chinese suppliers were to blame for the device’s problems, and also announced work on Hydrogen Two.

Hydrogen One will continue to receive updates. Giannard also mentioned RED’s work on the Komodo 6K camera.

Jim Jannard has led RED since its founding in 1999. RED Digital Cinema will continue to operate under the direction of Jarred Land (President of RED), Tommy Rios (Executive Vice President of RED) and Jamin Giannard (President of Marketing at RED).
