If you just take the device in hand, you can feel a certain privilege. Thin aluminum body looks very solid, especially in the case of a really large device.
The front panel is a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display, around which is exactly the same frame. By the way, the edges of the display have roundings that are repeated by the lines of the case.
I am very pleased that the manufacturer has stopped stamping the logo on the front of the device, so that of the prominent elements, only the front camera can be noted.
On the back side you can find a single peephole of the camera, and without a flash, just below the Samsung logo. At the top and bottom of the visible white inserts under the antenna. On images from the official website at the bottom of the tablet, you can find the icon of AKG, the company that had a hand in the sound of the tablet. There is no such labeling on our sample.
But on the lower and upper edges there are two dynamics at once. In addition, there is a Type-C connector, but nowhere were traces of 3.5 mm Jack-a.
On the left side are contacts and fasteners for branded accessories. And on the right side there is a hybrid SIM slot and a memory card, a single volume rocker and a recessed power button containing a fingerprint scanner.
I can’t say anything bad about the assembly, the tablet cannot be twisted. A bulging camera does not interfere with the device to lie quietly on the table.
As is the case with any such electronics, this is a fundamental link. And then Samsung is in no hurry to change itself. Before the user is a large matrix of Super AMOLED with a diagonal of 10.5 inches with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels. The pixel density is 287 ppi.
It turns out that if you bring the eye very close to the screen, you can see the pixel grid. If you, like all ordinary people, consume content from a distance of about thirty centimeters, then there will be no problems with perception.
AMOLED gives its owner a deep black color and a bright enough contrast picture. It is better to deal with the processing of photos on IPS, but it’s possible to be amazed at the detail and colors on such a screen.
The viewing angles are good, the tonality changes only at an extremely possible angle, when the whole image tends to gather in one line. Stock brightness enough even to work in direct sunlight.
All computational tasks fall on the shoulders of Qualcomm Snapdragon 670, which is helped by 4 GB of RAM. This is not the most powerful chipset on the market, but we recall the “e” postscript in the device name, apparently, all the cream will be assembled by Tab S5.
There is a version with 6 GB of RAM, which is not 64, but 128 GB of internal storage, but only the younger version came to our market .
In general, the device quickly copes with most tasks, but the tablet is often a workstation and 4 GB does not always allow keeping 4-6 tabs in the browser without rebooting, and if you type text in the editor, there is a risk of running out of RAM.
At the heart of the “OSes” is Android 9 Pie, in the company with which the proprietary graphical shell One UI works.
The interface looks nice. Large icons then come together, then diverge at a distance, because regardless of the vertical or horizontal mode, there will be exactly six of them in a row. For some, it will help not to get lost in their own desktops, but some users will be indignant at the irrational use of free space.
The rightmost desktop is reserved for the Bixby assistant and his clever hints. Not every user activates it at all, but if anything, he is ready to prompt the nearest plans by looking at them in the calendar, give you a schedule of your activity or help manage your smart home.
In the notification panel is a quick settings menu. From here, it is quite convenient to manage the connection to wireless networks, turn on cellular data, or “night mode”, which replaces all white backgrounds with black ones, which greatly saves the battery.
But the main feature is Samsung DeX, which allows turning the tablet into a kind of computer with familiar windows and a desktop. By clicking on the activation mode, you doom yourself to a small reboot of the tablet, which takes just a couple of seconds, after which the device is ready for use.
And you can use the tablet as with the help of external peripherals, and poking on the screen.
What upset is the lack of Always On Display. Despite AMOLED, this item is completely missing in the settings. But many will appreciate the opportunity to call from the tablet, yes, Simka is here and the corresponding application “Phone” is also in place.
A single 13 megapixel sensor with a very standard viewing angle of 80 degrees. The aperture index is f / 2.0. It would be strange to place any expectations on him, nevertheless I have to admit that it is possible to get a decent frame in the afternoon.
It may seem that the pictures are too sharp, but it gives a good elaboration of details. Dark areas do without unnecessary noise, and glare does not spoil the image very much along its contour.
“Frontalka” is 8 megapixels here and is suitable for video conferencing. I don’t think that someone will try to get a decent selfie from her.
In general, the device leaves a positive opinion. But it seemed to me a very strange decision with the power button. To begin with, it is worth clarifying that the scanner does not always work, and without this it is unnecessarily difficult to unlock a tablet lying on a table. To do this, in most cases you will have to enter a PIN or lift the device.
In terms of performance it is pointless to find fault. The device allows you to perform simple tasks and even play on medium graphics settings, but in general it is worth remembering about the “e” postscript.
The tablet is perfect for the consumption of multimedia content. For example, it is ready to play a movie for about 15 hours, and all thanks to a large 7040 mAh battery, by the way, with fast charging.
In general, the outlet will have to turn about once every 2-3 days. Provided that you surf the net a couple of hours a day and prefer to watch YouTube rather than stick to toys.
What really liked it was the speakers from AKG. There are four of them and paired with Dolby Atmos they delight you with a volume, loud sound. Lack of 3.5 Jack brightens the presence of the adapter in the kit, but if you leave it at home, then you will have enough positive emotions for the rest of the day.
Part of the problem with adapters is solved by cooperation Samsung and AKG. After all, they prepared an action for buyers, thanks to which, with the pre-order of the tablet, AKG Y500 overhead headphones were presented.
In short, this is a compact wireless solution with a cool case and a decent margin for the time of work. Approximately 30 hours of listening from a single charge.
I found the sound prone to bass. Someone will miss the high frequencies, while others will enjoy a solid sound. However, the soundtrack is not going into a single mess.
Note that these headphones overhead. They do not envelop the ear, but lie on top of it. For many, this is contraindicated for reasons of style, for me it meant more pressure on the ears. Although, to be frank, I’m used to overhead solutions.
In the case of discharge, you can connect to the ears by cable and use them in the classic mode. A striking factor will be a foldable design that allows you to minimize the dimensions of the headphones.
Galaxy Tab S5e turned out to be a high-quality device with a good build, not always correct ergonomics, but undoubtedly a cool design.
Many users will miss the performance, but it should be noted quality screen. And if you set your task to the consumption of multimedia content and easy work tasks, then this tablet is ready to become your reliable companion.
