Samsung has announced plans to curtail the production of LCD displays in factories in China and South Korea by the end of 2020. About this writes Reuters.
The reason is a drop in demand. The company has two LCD display lines in South Korea and two specialized factories in China.
By the end of the year, Samsung will supply LCD matrices to customers, including Apple.
Then the company will completely focus on the production of screens with quantum dots, which are a more promising technology.
Samsung previously said it would invest about $ 10.72 billion in research and improvement on its product lines that produce quantum dot screens.
In addition to Samsung, LG Display announced that by the end of 2020, the production of LCDs in South Korea will also be discontinued.
Without these two companies, Japan Display and Sharp will remain the suppliers of LCD displays for Apple.
