In an interview with TASS at the SPIEF-2019, the head of the Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development in Moscow, Maxim Liksutov, talked about the timing of the start of testing the facial recognition system to pay for travel in the Moscow metro.

According to the official, now the metro, Sberbank, VTB, Rostec and the Information Technology Department of Moscow are discussing the timing of testing and agree on the technical parameters of the project.

We expect to begin testing no later than the end of 2019.

One of the requirements for such a system – the speed of work. Liksutov calls the maximum response time in one second, otherwise the turnstiles will begin to accumulate passengers, says the head of the department.

In late May, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that more than 200 thousand surveillance cameras with a face recognition system would be installed in the city. According to him, the infrastructure “will be one of the largest systems in the world, competing, perhaps, only with Chinese systems.”
